About this site
What it is
Gig Slut is an independent guide to the underground, indie, and DIY live music scene, focused on Melbourne for now, with the potential to expand further later.
There are already some fantastic social media accounts and websites doing an excellent job of covering the underground scene. This app aims to complement them by bringing everything together in one place, making it easier to discover gigs and plan a night out. Alongside gig listings, it includes venue locations on an interactive map, genres, posters where available, event descriptions, and neatly organised listings for each day.
The app highlights gigs at smaller local venues such as pub band rooms, bars, and community spaces that often fly under the radar of mainstream ticketing platforms.
The focus is on original live music featuring local bands, touring artists, and emerging acts playing the kinds of rooms that define Melbourne’s grassroots music scene.
How it works
Gig listings are discovered by scanning venue websites and ticketing platforms. Each one is then reviewed to make sure it’s a good fit for the app, while also pulling together useful details like genres, ticket prices, posters where available, and other information that helps you decide what to see.
The process of deciding which gigs belong here is constantly being refined as the app matures. That means the occasional underground gem might be missed, while the odd gig that doesn’t quite fit may sneak through. It’s all part of an ongoing effort to make the listings as useful and relevant as possible.
For now, the process isn’t fully automated, so new listings are usually added about a week in advance, although this can vary from week to week. Automation is something that’s actively being worked on and should make the app more comprehensive over time.
While every effort is made to keep listings accurate, details such as set times, ticket prices, lineups, and even event dates can change after they’re published. It’s always worth checking the original venue or ticketing page before heading out.
Who runs it
This is an independent project with no affiliation to any venue, ticketing platform, or music organisation. It’s built and maintained by a single developer, musician, and gig goer with a passion for discovering underground live music.
